Recession batters nonprofit bottom lines in 2009
Revenues Are Down 22% While Demand for Services Grows
(February 1, 2010 Phoenix, AZ) -- The Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits released the results of its statewide survey about the impact of the recession on nonprofits, and it shows that organizations suffered significant losses of revenues in 2009, while at the same time 80% of nonprofits saw rising demand for their services.
“Nonprofits are on the front lines of helping families and communities cope with the effects of the Great Recession in Arizona,” said Patrick McWhortor, President & CEO of the Alliance. “But their ability to meet these pressing demands are compromised by revenue losses in every major category.”

HSSA Offers Two Days of Free Sterilization Surgeries to Celebrate!
The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA) will help eliminate pet overpopulation by providing FREE Spay and Neuter surgeries for 2 days in February in honor of “prevent a litter month” and the 16th annual, national Spay Day USA.
Pet owners can take advantage of this free service by showing up at HSSA’s Spay/Neuter Clinic on Friday February 12th or 26th, and help keep thousands of kittens and puppies out of shelters every year at the same time. A fertile cat can produce up to 18 kittens in just one year, while a fertile dog can produce up to 20 puppies each year! By spaying or neutering your pet now, you can prevent countless of puppies or kittens from facing homelessness, neglect, or even worse.

PHOENIX (Dec. 22, 2009) -- Goodwill of Central Arizona has opened eight convenient, temporary donation drop-off sites throughout the Valley. The sites will be open through Jan. 31, 2010 and will allow Valley residents to easily drop-off unwanted household items, clothing and electronics. Goodwill needs donations to continue to help central Arizona’s disadvantaged youth and adults and 100 percent of the dollars raised from community donations stay with the Goodwill organization. Donated items will be resold in one of Goodwill’s 42 retail store locations to help fund the organization’s programs which provide job training and employment services to thousands of Arizona youth and adults each year.

Consumers may drop off computers for recycling at any Goodwill location
PHOENIX (Dec. 21, 2009) -- Goodwill of Central Arizona and Dell have expanded the company’s existing ReConnect program, designed to enable consumers to responsibly recycle any brand of unwanted computers and computer accessories at no cost, to Arizona. Revenue generated from the recycled computer equipment supports Goodwill’s job training programs, workforce development and placement services and other community-based programs for people with barriers to employment.
