Goodwill celebrates the contributions of those with disabilities in the work force
PHOENIX (October 8, 2009) — October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Since 1945, the federal government has been encouraging employers to consider the talents of all workers, including those with disabilities.
For 62 years, Goodwill of Central Arizona has been providing job training and employment services in both the private and public sectors to people with disabilities. Goodwill marks National Disability Employment Awareness Month by educating employers and debunking myths about workers with disabilities.

The Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits in partnership with the City of Phoenix and the Phoenix Public Library - Burton Barr Branch is pleased to present the Alliance October Grants Forum on October 22, 2009 from 9:30 am to Noon.
This Forum connects nonprofit organizations seeking grants with grant funders. In addition, participants will learn about opportunities for partnership, network with other nonprofits, and share knowledge.

PHOENIX (Sept. 21, 2009) — As part of a “United We Serve” Community Action Day hosted by U.S. Representative Harry Mitchell, Goodwill of Central Arizona will be collecting gently-used clothes and household items. These donations are then sold in Goodwill’s 42 retail stores where ninety cents of every dollar earned returns to our local communities and helps support Goodwill’s Commitment to Put People to Work! Rather than disposing of these gently-used items, residents are encouraged to bring them to Goodwill’s donation center in Scottsdale as a tax deductible charitable donation.

PHOENIX (September 21, 2009) — ecademie Charter High School, which runs under the auspices of Goodwill of Central Arizona, received a $206,000 grant from the Improving Literacy through School Libraries (LSL) program run through the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will be used to establish a library for students – a critical component to a successful learning environment.

Our dogs and cats are rubbing elbows, literally. As we start to approach fall, we are not seeing a heat wave, but instead, a “heap wave!” There are heaps and heaps of homeless cats and dogs waiting for a loving home. Every year we always see an explosion of cats and dogs during the summer months, but this year even as we are approaching fall, we are still getting hit with waves of homeless animals.Add a comment
